36 Cloud Forest

Redshift Trio

A balance of form and meaning resting on soft, intense sounds. A work of harmony and fusion, where genres blur and blend, gliding over suggestions of undeniable power.

This is the 36th release by nusica.org, a cultural association that promotes and supports innovative artists.

The new album by Redshift Trio will be released on April 18, 2025, preceded by the single Cloud Forest on April 11.

Visions and sounds merge in Redshift Trio’s latest album, a project with a bold sound, perfectly balanced between all elements at play.

Cloud Forest, a title that evokes mythical and synesthetic imagery, marks the trio’s fourth studio album. The band, consisting of Nico Soffiato and Josh Deutsch, features drummers Dave King, Rudy Royston, and Bram Kincheloe, who rotate within the project while maintaining the trio format as its stylistic and existential signature.

In this album, the integration of the keyboard aims to make the guitar a more melodic voice, with harmony as the dominant theme—constantly shifting, mobile yet persistent.

The album features ten tracks filled with personal and interpretative nuances. For instance, C Something plays on a phrase from a New York subway announcement: “If you see something, say something,” incorporating sounds reminiscent of ‘90s rock bands like the Smashing Pumpkins. Another track, Make It There, is inspired by a satirical reference to New York, New York as seen in The Simpsons, humorously rebranded as Upstate New York.

A standout example of collaborative composition is Likely Story, which started as a sketch by Soffiato, was developed together, and later refined by Deutsch, who took the original melody and harmony and enhanced it with melodic variations and harmonic ideas inspired by Radiohead.

This interplay of fusion and intertwining ideas flows in a vortex of harmonies, improvisations, and memories. Here, music reclaims its essence—an idea of beauty that is both spontaneous and refined, driven by an urgency to express itself without unnecessary embellishments.
